Originally from Michigan, Semaj started dancing when she was five years old. She found some recognition on the popular video messaging platform Dubsmash before she became active on Instagram. Born on November 5, 2004, Semaj Lesley was brought up by her parents in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Her real name is Madison. She has been interested in dancing since she was very young. As she grew up in a neighbourhood that promoted the pursuit of excellence in performing arts, she started harbouring dreams of becoming a successful dancer someday. Semaj was five years old when she began dancing. She has a younger sister named Milan, who is also a dancer.

Semaj Lesley is bisexual. In a TikTok video posted on September 5, 2019, she revealed that while her father is unaware of her sexual orientation, her mother came to know about it from one of Semaj’s acquaintances. Her mother was apparently not happy about it.
